100,000 Poets for Change on Louisiana's Northshore

Louisiana Poet Laureate Mona Lisa Saloy

On October 1, several poets gathered at the Women's Center for Healing & Transformation for the annual 100,000 Poets for Change event. The national event took place a week earlier, on September 24, but our Northshore leader postponed the local event because he was worried about the possibility of a late-season hurricane.

The featured poet was Louisiana Poet Laureate Mona Lisa Saloy, who presented a wonderful reading, including some narration (and a bit of singing) about her New Orleans history. One poet brought her guitar and entertained us with a hilarious and clever song she had written about the pandemic.

I read Waiting for Hurricanes, Sonnet for the Collar, and Sonnet for Olivia.
